Julia Fiona Roberts was born in Atlanta on October 28, 1967 in the home of Betty Lou Bredemus and Walter Grady Roberts. She belongs to four generations of the Robertses who live in the Atlanta area, starting from her maternal grandfather John Pendleton Roberts a farmer. The father of her mother took the first interest to the theatre. While attending Emory University in 1952 he participated in plays on campus and in Atlanta. He joined the Air Force. While stationed in Biloxi in Mississippi, he appeared in a production with Betty Lou Bredemus. The two married in 1955 and the couple's first child Eric Anthony was born in 1956. Walter was studying at Tulane University, New Orleans Louisiana. The year 1957 was the year they quit the Air Force and Walter began his studies at Tulane. Walter was employed by Atlanta Academy Theater and Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio. The family moved in 1960 and moved into Decatur Georgia. In 1964, Walter together with Betty Lou began production on an on-sunday morning local children's television show called Bum Bum and His Buddies which they financed themselves. In the following year, they established The Actors and Writers Workshop which continued for six seasons. They also had Lelisa Billingsley (also referred to as Lisa) as well as Julia (also known as Julie) during this period.
